Kirkland Morris | Founder & Partner

Storytelling has guided my path from the beginning. Raised in Chicago and shaped by extensive travel across the United States, I developed an early appreciation for stories that reflect culture, complexity, and truth. I planned to pursue entertainment law, but writing was my true calling. I moved to Los Angeles with no industry connections, housing, or income, and immersed myself in the film and television community, working on sets and attending industry events.

My first industry experience came through the Hollywood Black Film Festival, where I worked in operations and registration alongside Kelli Moore, gaining firsthand insight into how creative platforms function and how vital behind the scenes support is to their success. It is also where I met Jacqueline Blaylock, then the Festival Programmer.

That dedication earned me acceptance into the Guy Hanks and Marvin Miller Fellowship Program, a writing scholarship to Writers Boot Camp, and an open door relationship with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions. In 2016, I began working with G-Unit Film & Television, marking the start of my professional writing and producing career. I have since written for Starz’s Black Mafia Family across all four seasons and for Power Book IV: Force, and I am Co-Creator and Co-Executive Producer of Lamar, a spinoff of BMF. I am developing horror films with G-Unit Films, Arts District, and 3Blackdot. Two of my short films have been produced, one screened at the LA International Shorts Film Festival.

Jacqueline, Kelli, and I have been friends for more than twenty years, and that trust is what we now build on together as partners. The BLK Collective Media Group, LLC exists so storytellers do not have to navigate this path alone, with the access, community, and infrastructure to build sustainable creative careers. I credit my journey to the unwavering support of my family.
